For this example i am showing you connecting panels that are for a 12 volt system.
Wiring 4 100w 12 volt solar panels for 48v.
It shows eight batteries wired into two series strings of four batteries each.
If you look at the arrows along the white and red lines they are showing the direction of flow.

More details on this are available under battery wiring diagrams which explains series and parallel wiring.
This allows up to 30 amps of current to flow from a single panel.
In this first image there are 3 solar panels.
Solar panel wiring diagram 8usage and limitations.
Series parallel wiring thirty two panel solar system 4 groups of 8 watts since we connected thirty two panels together in series and parallel this solar system will output 2016w of power per hour maximum under optimal sunlight conditions.
You can indeed wire four nominal 12 volt panels in series to build a nominal 48 volt system for use with a pwm charge controller.
If they are 6v batteries of 250ah each then each string has a voltage of 24v 6v x 4 and 250ah.
The same would be true if wiring two 24 volt panels to equal 48 volts.
The reason for this is that in a series circuit the voltage increases but the current or amperage stays the same.
10 solar panels rated at 5 amps at 12.
This is a pretty good amount of power and.
Note that 4 x 12v batteries are wired in a series to achieve 48v there can be 2 or more 48v series of 4 wired in parallel to each other.
This is how the panels that i have built in my other instructables are connected and feed my solar charge controller.
But when you are working with the amount of power that justifies a 48 volt battery bank it will be more economical to get higher voltage panels and an mppt cc.

Often battery banks are connected together using both series and parallel wiring as in the diagram at lower left below.
If multiple panels are combined in parallel then a three to eight awg combiner wire set is generally needed to safely transfer the power to a charge controller or gti.

Commercial solar pv panels over 50 watts or so use 10 gauge awg wires.
